The Disability Committee was formed in 1992 with the aim of seeking the full implementation of
the 1990 ICTU Charter of Rights for Disabled People. Some of the committee members also
represent workers with a disability on committees of the Department for Employment and
Learning, the OFMDFM and other committees in the community.

The committee initiated the production of a set of disability guidelines for shop stewards
on all the relevant aspects for negotiations with organisations, employers and affiliated unions.
The partnership is with the Employers’ Forum on Disability, the Department of Employment and
Learning and City Bridges. The contents of the guidelines were compiled by City Bridges and
should be launched during 2006.
