Retired Members Committee
|
|
The Retired Members Committee was reconstituted in early 2005. The Committee continues to campaign vigorously on a range of issues of concern to retired workers. One issue of particular concern to the Committee is the Government’s proposals for additional water charges, the introduction of which will have a serious detrimental effect on the living standards of many elderly people in Northern Ireland. The Committee has lobbied all Northern Ireland MPs on this particular issue. Another issue of deep concern to the Committee is long-term care for the elderly and, in particular, the matter of charges for personal care. Again, the Committee is lobbying all Northern Ireland MPs in regard to this issue. Work on these, and other matters, continues.
