Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) Quick Reference 307
 Info   News
The union was first formed in Manchester in 1874, as a group of journeymen bakers came together to improve wages and living standards. The following year it began to expand into a national organisation.

The BFAWU organises in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland.

It is divided into seven regions, with N.Ireland being No 7 region.

The BFAWU remains a food-based union, operating and specialising in our own trade.

The union provides five basic types of membership benefits, trained officials to assist and help in house shop stewards and Safety reps. in improving your terms and conditions of Employment, Legal Aid for members, Financial Services, Direct “Rule Book” benefits and our own Credit Union.

The union also provides a wide range of courses for members as well as providing training for Shop Stewards and Health & Safety reps.

Courses are provided by ICTU, NICTU, TUC, GFTU and by the union itself.

Our aim is simple, to have the best trained officials –both lay and full time officials-because our members deserve the best possible representatives.

The BFAWU is your union and is based on branches. You elect your officials, both at work and within the Union Structure You elect your Conference Delegates to put forward you’re your voice at the supreme policy making body of your Union. You, debate and decide Union policy. You, control your Union.

We like to think of the BFAWU as a family, so way not get in touch and join the family.
