To mark World Day of Social Justice as a day to celebrate the contribution that migrants, from the EU and the wider world, make to society here, NIC-ICTU has organised a photo event outside Belfast City Hall, on 20th February, in conjunction with the ‘One Day Without Us’ campaign http://www.1daywithoutus.org/ Trade Unions and Human Rights Groups, as well as migrant workers have been invited to attend this photo event, which will be held between 12.45 pm and 1.15pm, on Monday 20th February, at the front of Belfast City Hall, and will bring banners and flags. NIC-ICTU has been encouraging its affiliates to host workplace events, celebrating the contribution Migrant workers and their families have made to northern Ireland, our economy, our society, our cultural life and, in many cases, the happiness of our families. The 20th February is UN ‘World Day of Social Justice.’ Social justice is an underlying principle for peaceful and prosperous coexistence within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice are upheld when we promote gender equality or the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants. We advance social justice when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability. The ICTU Migrant Workers Support Unit (MWSU) will be marking the day with a number of activities on 20th February and NIC would call on affiliates to host similar events.
