A short seminar examining the rights of employees who are pregnant or who are new mothersIn January 2015 the Equality Commission forNorthern Ireland began a formal investigationto examine the employment experiences ofpregnant workers and mothers in Northern Ireland.This investigation was deemed appropriate andnecessary in light of the volume of enquiriesreceived by the Commission regarding potentialpregnancy and maternity discrimination andthe growing body of research highlightingthe persistence of discriminatory treatmentexperienced by pregnant employees and mothers.The Commission’s findings were published in areport called Expecting Equality.This session will provide an overview of theinvestigation’s findings as will outline the rights,under employment and equality law of the affectedemployees.
