Remember the dead, fight for the living.
Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) marks Workers Memorial Day 25 April , Stormont.

Workers Memorial Day is an opportunity to remember all those who have been killed or injured at or as a result of their work and continue to fight for improved workplace safety for the living.
Almost a decade ago, the Health and Safety Committee of ICTU together with the GMB union together planted a tree in the grounds of Stormont Estate in memory of David Leyland, a GMB member who tragically lost his life at a BIFFA landfill site in 2008.
Crucial to improving workplace safety are trade union safety representatives who work day and daily to protect the safety and wellbeing of all working people.
Today’s event provides the relatives of those who have been killed at work while trying to make a living with an opportunity to remember their loved ones, and for all of us to let them know that we think of these families and well as the individual workers on this sad and special day.
It is also very important that we are joined by our elected representatives because this is a day for the entire community, not only trade unions and the families of those who have died.
