The Department for the Economy (previously DEL) has been working with the trade union movement since 2002 to develop a Northern Ireland Union Learning Fund (ULF) which supports upskilling in workplaces and the community. The Fund’s overarching aim is to promote a culture of learning which will equip people for work in a modern economy.

Since 2002 the ULF has supported innovative union-led projects, enabling over 10,500 workers to gain their first qualification in Maths, English, or IT. The ULF has supported a further 35,000 workers to gain nationally recognised upskilling or re-skilling qualifications or CPD.

Please note that we have not received formal notification from the Department of funding for 2023-2026. Therefore, all applications submitted to ICTU are subject to the authorisation of funding by DFE.

ICTU looks forward to receiving bids from a wide range of Unions and to working with them to build on the many achievements of the Union Learning Fund to date.

For further information on the ULF NI and to request an application form, please contact Julie Gorman at [email protected]
