This course is aimed at union officials and experienced union representatives.
Trade unions have always been at the forefront of the drive for equality and inclusion at work, whether through the struggle for equal pay, through tackling sectarianism, racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of prejudice. The course will look at all aspects of inequality in the workplace, including social and economic, and focus on developing strategies to effect positive change.
The course will include:
- Strengthen knowledge of equality issues in the workplace
- Promote an understanding of union values and policies on equalities
- The legal framework of the right to equality.
- An examination of the roots of racism, sexism, and sectarianism.
- Challenging prejudice, including racism, sexism, homophobia, and other forms of discrimination and harassment.
- Social and economic inequality, including precarious employment and low pay.
- Critical analysis of equality law and workplace policies.
- How to use legislation to effect positive change in the workplace and wider society.
- Understand how to use union structures and strategies in working for equality.
- Developing campaigns to improve equality, build and engage union membership.
