Motion no: 12
Conference notes the commitment made by the new UK Government to repeal and replace the Legacy Act as called for by ICTU and our allies.
Conference recalls the support ICTU has given over many years to the campaign for a public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane. Conference welcomes the decision by the new UK Government to establish an independent statutory public inquiry and believes a fully human rights compliant public inquiry must take place as soon as possible.
In addition, Conference further calls on the UK Government to recommence the inquests, repeal and replace the Tory legislation as a matter of urgency and reconsider the establishment of the Commission set up by the previous Government.
Conference calls on the Northern Ireland Committee to continue working alongside victims and survivors’ groups, and our allies across civic society, to engage with the new UK Government to implement measures within the Stormont House Agreement in a human rights compliant manner.
