That this conference recognises that pensioners, especially those without email or internet access, are particularly dependent on the postal service for the receipt of communications from statutory organisations, including Health and Social Care (NHS) and from family and friends.

They are therefore at particular risk from social exclusion and isolation if this vital public service is reduced and compromised on the altar of capitalist profit.

Conference reiterates its position demanding the re-nationalisation of Royal Mail in the interest of our communities, society and the wider economy. Conference expresses its concern that under the current private-for-profit management, employees report being instructed to prioritise delivery of tracked parcels and packets over first and second letter leading to a deterioration in the delivery of letters including those for medical appointments.

Conference instructs the incoming Northern Ireland Committee to launch a campaign demanding that the Stormont Assembly legislate to ensure, that regardless of ownership, the Royal Mail’s universal service obligation guaranteeing deliveries to all UK addresses on a six-day week basis be kept and enforced in this region.
