Speaking at a Department of Finance event to mark Living Wage Week and the accreditation of the NI Executive as a living wage employer, ICTU AGS Owen Reidy said
The trade union movement welcomes the commitment from the NI Executive to be a living wage employer. This is more important than ever given the squeeze on household incomes and low rates of pay in Northern Ireland.
At the ICTU Biennial Conference, the 5 main political parties pledged to enact the commitments around workers rights and Fair Work which were agreed and signed off in the New Decade New Approach agreement. The trade union movement will work with employers and government for union recognition and collective bargaining as the norm rather than the exception and as the best way to achieve decent work, in the right quantities and paid properly.
